Advice on Playing Backgammon for Money
Many people played backgammon in the 1970s when the game was a huge hit. Now that the game is making a huge come, thanks in part to the popularity of internet gambling, many people are again seeking to play backgammon for money. The problem is that these people don't know what the acceptable backgammon bets are these days.
If we are talking about a casual backgammon game (for example, one that you play in the park or in backgammon clubs) - and not a high stakes game - we can safely assess that when playing backgammon for money, the bets can start at around $3 and go to as high as about $10 per point in the game.
When we consider chouettes, the average for playing backgammon for money is around $5 a point. At the bigger tournaments around the United States, one can also find $10 - $20 chouettes going on all the time. It all depends on the players, the tournament organizers and the acceptable standards in each individual region. Of course, when playing backgammon for money, these numbers change when we consider high stake backgammon - but that is a different ballgame altogether!
