An Overview of Backgammon Setup
A backgammon setup is done on a traditional backgammon board. There are two players in a game, each of which is given either 15 black backgammon checkers or 15 white checkers to place on the board. A board consists of four quadrants, each containing six pointed triangles known as points. The quadrants are either the opponent's outer board and home board or the player's outer board and home board.
The raised ridge in the middle of the backgammon board is known as the bar. In the backgammon set up, the doubling cube can be placed on this ridge. For the backgammon setup, players go about placing their backgammon checkers on specific points on the board. The eventual objective of the game is to move these points to their home board and then off the board altogether. The winner is the first player who manages to do this.
In a backgammon set up, the checkers are placed as follows on the points: two checkers on each point number 24, five checkers on each point 13, three checkers on each point 8 and five checkers on each point 6. While this information may seem a little confusing initially, once a player sets up a backgammon board more than a couple of times, the process will come naturally.
