Common Backgammon Beginner Mistakes

Nobody is born knowing how to play backgammon. Even the best players in the world were once amateurs and learned from their mistakes along the way. Most of them, however heeded the backgammon advice of other, more experienced players than them and learned what to avoid and how to play well. There are many backgammon beginner mistakes that can be identified.

When a backgammon beginner asks for advice, he or she will most likely hear one of the most common backgammon tips that pros can give to newbies: "Don't run from the rear when you are behind in a race!" This may seem obvious to you when you are a seasoned players, but it is a move that is played instinctively (and mistakenly!) by backgammon beginner players.

Another common backgammon beginner error is the relinquishing of key points too early on in the game. This can be devastating for the outcome of the game. Players are also known to have difficulty distinguishing between safe and bold play. As players become more experienced, they learn when to play safely and when to take more chances.
