Backgammon Boards for Tournaments

Are you looking to play backgammon competitively? There are many things you need to know before you start participating in backgammon tournaments. One of the most important is the type of backgammon equipment allowed under each tournament's regulations. So when it comes to backgammon boards, which specifications are considered to be of an acceptable standard?

Firstly, backgammon tournaments are not presided over by any one authoritative body. Therefore rules are based on specific competitions rather than for all events as a whole. This means that tournaments will often have different rules on which types of backgammon equipments are permitted. While precision dice are nearly always required when playing backgammon competitively, the rules on backgammon boards are a little more relaxed.

Under Danish Backgammon Federation rules, the specifications for backgammon boards should be no less 44 cm x 55 cm and no more than 66 cm x 88 cm. The disadvantage of smaller backgammon boards is that they often lack enough surface for the dice to roll freely. They may also limit a player's vision. If you're looking to play competitive backgammon, it is wise to purchase a board that fits into the above specifications so that you gain an optimal backgammon experience and can take your board to competitive events with no hassles.
