Backgammon Doubling Tips

In modern times, the concept of backgammon doubling has been introduced to the game, making for some exciting and interesting game sessions when playing for stakes. New players, however, may not know how to make heads or tails of the doubling cube. A few backgammon tips may clear up some of the confusion:

To know when to apply backgammon doubling is something that is learned over time. Essentially, the player needs to learn how to calculate probabilities and then apply the concept of backgammon doubling. One of the most popular backgammon tips states that if a player has less than 25% chance of winning, he should not accept the backgammon doubling option. However, if he has more than that, he should accept.

This works both ways however. A player knows that his opponent will accept a backgammon doubling until he (the player) has a 75% chance of winning the game. As such, the player should refrain from doubling until he is close to that percentage. A final tip: In the case of a player leading a match, he should always drop earlier and double later.
