The Ins and Outs of Backgammon Etiquette

Backgammon is a game that you play against another opponent and is considered a social pastime in every sense of the word. While backgammon skill is an important thing to have, you still need to remember that there is such a thing as backgammon etiquette. If you don't treat your opponent well, or if you make him or her feel bad, you may find yourself without anyone to play against.

There are several things that you - as a player - can do to ensure that your opponent does not feel bad in a game, First off, you can apologize for the way that you have been rolling and for your good fortune. Both of you know that there is not much that can be done about backgammon luck and the results of the dice rolls, but backgammon etiquette means that a simple good word or apology can go a long way in making the other player feel better about his or her poor luck in the game.

Another thing you can do is ignore the other player's bad behavior or sarcastic remarks. While this is obviously a poor display of backgammon etiquette on their part, you may want to choose to ignore the behavior instead of getting caught up in a word fight or other belligerent behavior. Practice your backgammon etiquette for a more pleasant gaming environment and therefore more success in your games.
