Constructing a Backgammon game board

Once a player has seen how fun the game of Backgammon can be they are likely inclined to want to make it a little more personal. One of the best ways to personalize the game of Backgammon, and add a little creative flair, is to make a Backgammon game board. There are several considerations to take into account when beginning to make a Backgammon game board, however, when the player is finished it will certainly be something that is treasured for years and years. In fact if it is good enough it can be passed down from generation to generation.

To begin constructing a Backgammon game board a player must consider the type of surface that they want to play on. Some construction materials do not lend themselves well to game board construction because they are either too hard, or too soft. The game board, ideally, should be made of a material that is consistent throughout. Another consideration is the smoothness of the surface. For example, if a player decides to use unfinished Mahogany the game pieces wouldnt be able to slide smoothly and game play would be inhibited. However, if a player used highly polished Mahogany the game pieces would slide very smoothly. If the gaming surface was polished too much, the game pieces might slide off their spots unintentionally as well. Therefore, it is very important to find a happy medium when constructing the board; not too rough, not too smooth.

This is just the first couple of items to consider when beginning constructing a Backgammon game board. With a little knowledge, and a lot of skill, a Backgammon player can have a personal touch that they can cherish for the rest of their lives.
