Learn about the Backgammon Game Rule

You may feel slightly intimidated the first time you see the game of backgammon. However, it is not what it seems like, and is a pretty simple game, once you know the basics. Requiring a combination of skill and luck, backgammon has been around since ancient times. Once you learn the basics, you need to practice constantly to lift your game so it is on par with the best in the world. To be able to play the game well, you need to be conversant with the backgammon game rule book.

You need two players to play backgammon. You can play backgammon online or on a real board. Each player has 15 checkers in a specific colour. You position the checkers strategically on the board on the 24 triangles that are present. Besides, you have a set of two die and also a doubling cube. The basic backgammon game rule is that the game is not over until either you or your rival has taken all your checkers off the board.

Another backgammon game rule is that at the start of the game, you may have two or more checkers on each point, but as the game progresses you will have to release these checkers to other locations on the board, thereby making them vulnerable to attacks from opposing checkers. Your opponent can knock a checker off the board; you then have to re-enter the game. Re-entry can sometimes be tricky, especially if you are not getting the correct numbers on rolling the die, or if there is no space on your opponents home board. You can avoid this by getting a double score with the throw of the die.

Therefore, it is crucial that you go through the backgammon game rule set, and are aware of the different situations you could find yourself in during the course of a game. Knowing about these situations also gives you the awareness of how to come out of them. While playing backgammon can be fun, it would definitely be a dampener if you lost all the time. It could also get frustrating in a scenario where you are playing backgammon for money, and are constantly losing.
