The Doubling Cube: The Tactically Most Important Backgammon Official Rule

There are not many rules in the backgammon game. But the backgammon game is strong on strategy. Players use strategy to corner their opponents or to pressurize them. One of the main devices used by players to exert pressure on their opponents is the doubling cube. The usage of the doubling cube is tactically the most important backgammon official rule.

The doubling cube is an accessory that comes with the backgammon set. It is natural that it will have some role to play in the backgammon game. The doubling cube is used to increase the number of points that are at stake in the backgammon game. It is for this reason that it has become an important backgammon official rule.

The normal position for the doubling cube is on the ridge at the center of the board. If a player feels that his position is stronger than that of his opponent, he can bring the doubling cube into play. Once a player offers his opponent a double he cannot withdraw it. If the opponent declines the double he will lose the game and one point as well. The opponent can redouble if he feels that he is in a stronger position in the backgammon game. If the opponent then wins then he will win by a huge margin. The third option with the opponent is to accept the double. This is the backgammon official rule regarding the doubling cube.

The backgammon official rule further specifies that when the doubling cube is in play the points won are multiplied by the value of the doubling cube. When a player wins a gammon with doubling cube showing 2, he wins four points and not the normal two.

Hence it is important to understand all aspects of the doubling cube before playing.
