Backgammon Tip: When Not To Use The Doubling Cube
Just because the backgammon doubling cube is there many backgammon players feel compelled to use it. Their objective becomes to create situations favourable to use the backgammon doubling cube rather than concentrating on winning the backgammon game. An important backgammon tip is that just because the doubling cube is there you do not have to use it. When you double you hand over ownership of the doubling cube to your opponent and give him an advantage known as recube vigorish. Unless you secure an advantage greater than the recube vigorish it is senseless to double.
There are two occasions in the backgammon game when you should not use the backgammon doubling cube. The simple backgammon tip is that if you do not have market gainers do not double. Market gainers are a possible series of two rolls that will strengthen your position considerably in the backgammon game. This does not mean that if you have market gainers you should necessarily double. The backgammon tip says that market gainers are a necessary but not sufficient condition to use the backgammon doubling cube.
The other occasion in the backgammon game when you should not use the backgammon doubling cube is when you are likely to win by a gammon. Good backgammon players do not accept every gauntlet that is thrown to them. If they see more value in refusing the double and conceding the game at single stake than risk losing by a gammon and paying twice the staked amount they will refuse the double. The backgammon tip is to go for the gammon and not to cash the advantage by using the backgammon doubling cube.
