How to Make the First Backgammon Burn

You might feel nervous making your first move at a backgammon table. However, your confidence will grow as you play, as long as you are conversant with the rules of the game. Whoever rolls the higher number starts the game. Subsequently, you use two die to determine the number of spaces you can move across the backgammon board. If you score a double on your first roll, you need to ignore it and roll again. Depending on the number you roll, you can make either one move each using two different checkers or two continuous moves with one checker. Moving one checker means you leave the point your checker is on open for your opponent to exploit.

To make the proper backgammon turn, you must know where you can move your checkers to. You need to move your checkers towards the home board, away from the direction your opponents checkers are at. You can move your checkers to any available point, which is either an empty space or a space that has a single opposing checker. In your backgammon turn, you can block a point and own it by placing two of your checkers at a time on it. This prevents your opponent from using or crossing that point..

You must forfeit your turn if you are unable to move a checker to an available point after rolling the die. The basic requirement is to be able to move at least one of your checkers at any point in the game. In case you can move only one checker, you must move it to the maximum number, as dictated by the roll of the die again. A double roll means that you move your checkers twice. A double roll is always an advantage as it means you get to maximize the number of moves you can make.

You can cause a blot by occupying a point that has one of your opponents checkers on it. Doing so causes the opponents checker to be sent to the bar, and it cannot be used again until it is reintroduced into the game. You must make maximum use of your backgammon turn and ensure your checkers are safe from being blotted out by your opponent. If your checker is on the bar, you need to throw a number that matches a free point. Practice the opening moves well, because a lot depends on that move. The outcome of the game can be influenced by your first backgammon move. Use your backgammon turn well!
