Understanding the Best Backgammon Point

In every sport or game there are positions that are strategically important. The chances of winning increase tremendously if you are able to reach these positions. The same is true in backgammon. This backgammon position of advantage is known as best backgammon point. Backgammon strategy is aimed at being the first player to reach the best backgammon point. The initial backgammon position is similar for both players. Each takes up two rows of five checkers and one row of three checkers. The backgammon moves then made by the players attempt to reach a backgammon position of advantage.

Masters in backgammon strategy have identified the best backgammon point after long years of playing. If you are expert player you can analyze why this backgammon position is advantageous. But if you are beginner it is best that you accept this and concentrate you backgammon moves on reaching this backgammon position. This backgammon position is the five-pointer located on the home board. With your backgammon moves you must place at least two checkers on the five-pointer so that you prevent your opponent from accessing it.

The other best backgammon point is your opponents five-pointer. You must employ backgammon strategy to reach this vital backgammon position and choke your opponents game. There are other points in the game of backgammon that are less important than the five-pointer but are important all the same. These are the seven-pointer and the four-pointer. However it is not worth accessing these points at the cost of the five-pointer. The correct backgammon strategy is to access these points in addition to the five-pointer.
