Blackjack Betting with Pairs

Blackjack players normally have three different options to take: Hit, Stand, and Double Down. When a player is dealt a pair, an additional option, called a Split, is added. This option allows players to split up the pair, making each an individual hand. Knowing which option to take can be confusing, but this Blackjack betting guide will let you know what to do with your cards.

Most of the time, you will Split when you have a pair. Sometimes when you play Blackjack, however, there may be a better option depending on the Dealer’s up card. Simply put, some pairs do not have one clear option. Depending on the dealer’s card, your Blackjack betting options may change. Follow this breakdown to know when you shouldn’t Split a pair.

Blackjack Betting: When NOT to Split Pairs

10-10: Stand
9-9: Stand when Dealer has 7, 10 or A
7-7: Hit when Dealer has 8, 9, 10 or A

5-5: Double Down if Dealer has 2 to 9; Hit if Dealer has 10 or A
4-4: Hit when Dealer has anything but 5 or 6

Choosing these specific Blackjack betting options will increase your chances of beating the house.
