Understanding Online Blackjack Terminology
Newcomers to the game of blackjack are suddenly confronted with what may seem an entire new language. However, on closer inspection online blackjack terminology is not as complex as it initially seems. What is important, however, is that players take the time to familiarize themselves with online blackjack terminology so as to gain an upper hand when they play blackjack and know what is being referred to.
Online blackjack terminology includes a list of verbs that may puzzle new blackjack players. In fact, words such as hit, stand, double, surrender and split simply explain the various options offered to players after they are dealt their cards. These are probably the most frequently used terms in the game. It would also be impossible to play blackjack well without a clear understanding of the term ‘basic blackjack strategy’. This strategy helps keep the house edge down and is one of the first things that players are taught about the game when they delve into information about tips and strategies.
Online blackjack terminology includes words such as ‘bust’ (when the player or dealer have a card value that exceeds 21); ‘double down’ (doubling the first bet); face cards (the King, Queen and Jack in a pack of cards); hard hand (a hand of cards comprising of no Ace or an Ace valued at 1) and soft hand (a hand comprising of an Ace valued at 1 or 11).
