What is a Blackjack Split?
Players who are new to the game of blackjack often don’t know anything about the blackjack split rule. The rules of blackjack state that when you receive two like cards as your initial 2-card hand you may split these cards and play them separately, as two separate games against the dealer.
A blackjack split can be helpful in several situations. The main situation where you should always go for a blackjack split is when you have two eights or two aces. The reason is that the total of 12 and the total of 16 are both very bust friendly. However, on their own an ace or an 8 are good first cards that you can hit with a guarantee that you won’t go over 21.
There are also blackjack hands that you should never split. For instance, never split fours or fives because starting out with eight or ten points is a great hand. You should also, under no circumstance, split double face cards or tens. The reason for this is obvious—you already have 20 points and it will be really hard to recreate blackjack hands that are that good.
The more you play blackjack and practice the easier it will be for you to know when to use the blackjack split rule and when to keep your cards together as a pair.
