Choosing a Backgammon Board
Many new players to the game of backgammon wonder whether they should spend a lot of money on a backgammon board. Experts say that a player's initial backgammon board should not cost an exorbitant amount of money, yet it should still be of sound enough quality that the product doesn't feel 'cheap'. Players should try to avoid boards that have backgammon checkers that are too small to feel comfortable playing with.
The checkers should fit well onto the checker points. A backgammon board may have the points stitched on or printed on. If they are printed on, there is less chance of the edges of the points curling up and hooking onto the checkers. However, many players are quite happy with their boards that have stitched points and it usually boils down to individual taste.
If you attend backgammon tournaments, and you come across a backgammon board that tickles your fancy, ask the player about the product, such as where it was purchased, whether he or she is happy with the board, the quality of the backgammon checkers and other accessories in comparison to the board, etc. Nothing quite beats the experience of other players and this is a good way to find out what is good and what should be avoided.
