Choosing the best backgammon dice

Choosing the right backgammon dice to go with your backgammon board is as important as choosing the right color tie to suit your shirt and jacket. The principle is the backgammon dice must work well with the backgammon point. If not the expected results will not be obtained and only disappointment will be achieved.

The choice of backgammon dice will depend mostly on the type of backgammon board a player has. This will take into account the size of the board, the materials it is made from as well as its aesthetic appeal. In terms of size, it would be a major social (backgammon) embarrassment for any serious backgammon player to present an impressively large backgammon board accompanied by miniature backgammon dice. Similarly, it would make for a rather clumsy backgammon competition were the backgammon board the size of an A4 paper and the dice the size of a child's fist.

Additionally, in terms of aesthetic appeal the is the unspoken rule of matching material. Just like a person wouldnt be caught dead wearing stripes and dots together, avid backgammon players would not mix a wooden board with marble dice. They just dont go together. Like and like is the principle. Wooden board equals wooden dice.

Finally, there is the principle of material. It is important that the dice are suitable for the backgammon board. If not, they will slide or stop in stead of rolling gracefully to the sides.
