Consulting Rules in Chouette Backgammon Play

One of the most popular forms of backgammon is chouette backgammon. The problem for many players is when they play backgammon of this kind, they are unsure of the rules governing certain aspects of the game. It is imperative for players to discuss the different backgammon rules before they begin a game of chouette backgammon, especially regarding consulting rules.

Generally, in chouette backgammon, there are three accepted forms of consulting rules. Players can agree that there is no consulting; that they consult from the first roll of the dice (ie. from the beginning of the game) or after the first turn of a cube (except in the case of automatic doubles). All the players involved should decide upon these backgammon rules before the game in order to prevent misunderstandings.

When they play backgammon, different players have different preferences when it comes to chouette backgammon. For example, some players may prefer consulting after the cube is turned as they say that this makes for a more dynamic game of backgammon. Exceptions to rules can always be decided on before playing, to make for fun and varied gaming.
