Understanding the Terminology in Cachito

Cachito, along with Dudo, Santaba and Liar’s Dice, is another name for the exciting South American dice game known as Perudo. For players to truly immerse themselves in the culture of this game, they should learn some of the common terminologies and phrases associated with Cachito. The word itself means several things in Spanish: A small piece of something; a Perudo dice cup and the formal name of the game itself.

When playing Cachito, players may often hear the word “Paso” being said. This means “I Pass” and is used by players who wish to pass in the game (with the assumption that they have five different dice). Perudo players may often use the phrase “Dudo”, meaning “I Doubt”. If said, the game is stopped and the dice are shown. The ‘doubter’ will lose a die if he or she is incorrect about the call.

Cachito also has specific names for the numbers on the dice as follows: Number one is ‘As’, number two is ‘Tonto’, number three is ‘Tren’, number four is known as ‘Cuarta’, five is ‘Quinta’ and, finally, number six is ‘Sexta’. While using the correct Cachito terms when playing Perudo is not imperative, it still adds a nice touch and allows players to understand what is being said if these terms are used by opponents.
