Making Online Poker Wagers in a Poker Game
Most online poker games commence when two players post “blind” bets or when all players contribute a fee into the pot known as an ante bet. After the initial online poker wagers have been made, the dealer will give each player a specific number of cards.
Once all players have checked their cards, the first betting round begins. If blinds were posted to start the game, the first player to start the online poker wagers is the one positioned to the left of the player that posted the big blind. This player must “call” the blind, “raise” it or fold. If the online poker game he is playing is a $2/4 fixed limit game, he needs $2 to call the blind. This is the amount of the small blind bet. He needs $4 to raise the big blind and if he folds, he forfeits the game.
The flop takes place when the dealer places three community cards on the table. Players in the poker game take turns at betting again after the flop, basing their online poker wagers on the lower stake associated with the game.
After the stage of the online poker game known as the turn, the online poker wagers increase to follow the higher amount used in fixed limit games. Based on the example above, calling a bet will now cost a player $4. After the turn, a fifth community card called the river is dealt. When all final bets are placed, players must display their cards to determine who has the highest five card online poker hand.
