Texas Holdem, probably the most popular of all poker variations, is played over four betting rounds. In the first round each player receives two private cards and in the subsequent rounds five community cards are placed on the table for the players to share (three in the second round and one each in the third and fourth rounds). Players do their best to make the best five-card hand possible and the player who achieves the best hand is the winner.

Another of these popular poker variations is Omaha poker. Similar to Texas Holdem, in Omaha each player receives not two but four private cards. The winner is the player who can make the best hand using two of his private cards along with three community cards. There is also a version of the game, Omaha Hi-Lo, in which the player with the lowest hand and highest hand split the winnings.

Five Card Draw, the oldest of these popular poker variations, is played without community cards. Players receive five cards each and may discard and draw them in order to create the best hand.
