The rules of online poker when it comes to blinds

The rules of online poker state that players are not allowed to just fold until they get pocket aces: this is done by charging a 'tax' on the hands that you play. The blinds that are paid at the beginning of a game are these exact 'taxes'. Again, the rules of online poker state that with each hand the player to the direct left of the dealer puts in the big blind and the player to his direct left the small blind. Usually, the small blind is half the amount of the big blind and the big blind is equal to the minimum bet in a limit game.

Let us pretend that we are playing in a $2-$4 game. According to the rules of online poker that we have just looked at the small blind will be $1 and the big blind $2. There are also small bets ($2 for the preflop and flop) and big bets ($4 at the turn and river).

Another one of the rules for online poker is that blinds are paid regardless of whether you like your cards or not. It is up to the other players to call or raise the blind bet or they need to fold. The player that pays the small blind needs to make up the difference between the small blind and the big blind, otherwise he will forfeit his hand. Essentially, if the big blind is $2 and the small blind is $1 the player with the small blind is required to pay $1 to call.
