Purpose of the Backgammon board

Good backgammon equipment is needed to play backgammon well. Backgammon also requires good standardized equipment for a good match. The most essential part of the backgammon equipment happens to be the backgammon board.

Backgammon boards come in different sizes. The smaller board however, has a few disadvantages. The less space available, lesser is the dice turn moreunfair roll of the dice, increase in the number of times you are going to get repeaters.

The best board you can have to play backgammon is the tournament sized board, as there is sufficient space to roll the dice there. It helps in fair play and stops wastage of time with numerous repeats. More space on the backgammon board gives a clear view of the game and less overlooking a hidden checker.

Although the tournament sized boards are of the best to play backgammon, for beginners to practice on small or medium board, will come handy as they have a long way to go for playing serious tournaments. These small or medium wooden boards are available for half the price of the good tournament sizes.

The backgammon board is divided into two tables namely, the inner board and the outer board separated by the partition known as bar. The points on the backgammon board are represented on the board in the form of long triangles in alternating colours. There are a total of 24 points represented by the triangles. The inner board has 6 points and the outer board has 7 to 12.on the opposite side the points are numbered as 13-24.The other components of the backgammon are Checkers,dice, dicing cups and doubling cube.
