Simple Backgammon strategies

Backgammon game play is quite straightforward you try to get your men into your home board and then sweep them off the board before your opponent can do so. But it also involves strategy - each time the dice rolls, you have to choose from multiple backgammon options for moving your men.

Here are some frequently used backgammon strategies; you should be able to switch backgammon strategies quickly as the game progresses, or you will run into problems.

A running game is one of the direct and frequently used backgammon strategies - you just have to avoid getting hit or trapped by your opponent and not get into stand-off problems. If you are ahead in the game, this is one of the best backgammon strategies to adopt.

In a holding game, you keep a point, high on your opponents board or bar point while he builds up his board. You may win by hitting your opponents blot from the point you held, or you can roll large doubles and break the point, so that you can take the lead in the race.

In a priming game, you create a six long (or longer) wall of your men, so that you can block your opponents men. The wall may be anywhere between your eleven-point and two-point and as the game progresses; you move the wall into your home board. In the Blitz, you trap your opponent on the bar and close your home board as quickly as you can. Then there is what is called the backgame backgammon; some players go in for this backgammon strategy from the start of the backgammon game, but this should be avoided as this is a losing strategy and it only lowers your chances of losing.
