Start with Backgammon checkers

One place that many Backgammon game board builders start to build a board is to start with Backgammon checkers. Many builders build their Backgammon boards around the checkers themselves. While this may seem counterintuitive to many, it isn’t. It is much easier to fit the board around a game piece than it is to fit an ill matched game piece onto a board that simply isn’t the right size. In fact a player is well advised to obtain their game pieces prior to starting to handcraft their Backgammon game board.

There are many different sizes of Backgammon checkers available therefore the Backgammon player should be familiar with all the different sizes prior to starting to build. If a player decides to make their own Backgammon checkers this presents a whole new set of challenges that must be addressed when building. Consistency is the key and this is especially true when it comes to the size of the Backgammon checkers. For this reason it is imperative that if a player decides to handcraft their own checkers that they take the time to ensure the quality of the game pieces. It would be terrible to build a beautiful Backgammon game board only to be forced to play with misshapen game pieces.

There is as much variation in game piece construction as there are sizes to be had. Generally most game boards today come with low quality plastic pieces. There is nothing necessarily wrong with these pieces and they are very adequate for game play, however, what they offer as far as consistency they lack in personality.
