The Advantages of Match over Money Play Backgammon

There are two ways to get in your backgammon fun: match play or money play backgammon. Obviously, there are some who prefer one kind or the other and some who don't mind either. Experts agree, however, that to earn well in the game, money play backgammon has certain disadvantages compared with match play.

When trying money play backgammon, you need to remember that the pace is much faster than backgammon match play. Somehow players feel the need to keep up with the pace of their opponents, which could lead to critical mistakes if you are not careful.

Also, it is much more difficult to concentrate during money play backgammon. An average session can last anything between 20 and 100 games and it is almost impossible to stay focused for that long. All this leads to the fact that players feel more nervous and less confident than when playing a backgammon match, especially when the backgammon stakes are high. Less confidence is almost always a recipe for loss of money in the long run.
