The right backgammon dice are very important for playing backgammon

One piece of equipment required for a good backgammon game is a quality set of backgammon dice. Using the right kind of dice will enhance your game experience. By contrast, using the wrong dice with your backgammon board can prevent your ability to play and even ruin your board.

Your backgammon dice should be rounded on the corners and not square. Square dice are used in other games, such as craps but backgammon game dice should be rounded on the corners. The round corners enable the dice so that they roll well instead of sliding across the backgammon board. In addition, sharp corners on dice can ruin your board's surface.

There are many makes of dice out there on the market but, it is worth your while investing in quality backgammon dice to go with your backgammon board. The pips on the dice should be painted on, not indented and the dice should be perfectly balanced so that they give a random roll. Also, the dice should be made of a hard durable material that will not chip as the dice are rolled.

As for size, small dice can be hard to pick up and larger dice may knock pieces around the board! A happy balance between the two is the best formula. While quality backgammon dice are more expensive, they are worth the investment because they will add to the pleasure of your backgammon game and help protect your backgammon board.
