The Successful Backgammon Player
Ever wondered how the intermediate backgammon player reaches an advanced level? Generally, an intermediate player will have a good understanding of backgammon fundamentals, including opening moves and probabilities. However, errors in judgement still arise. Decision-making can be difficult for some players. For example, some players may be torn between hitting one of their opponent's checkers or making another inner board point. Strategic thinking can also pose a challenge. Should a player prime, blitz or run?
These are the points that generally separate the intermediate backgammon player from his advanced opponent. A player at an advanced level will have a strong concept of strategy and be unafraid to play aggressively from the opening rolls. He will also know when to use the doubling cube effectively - something which intermediate players often struggle with - and how to use the various points on the backgammon board to his advantage.
Arguably, some players may also be luckier than others. Backgammon is mostly about skill, however the luck of the dice does play its part. If a backgammon player is having a good day, he will invariably play better than a player who is down on his luck.
