Tips on making your own backgammon board
Many backgammon enthusiasts will not settle for using any backgammon board but rather take the time and effort to make their own backgammon set. These handcrafted boards are carefully made to suit personal tastes and are often works of art in of themselves.
The first step in making your own backgammon board is to select the backgammon checkers you intend to use. The size and color of these pieces will define the size and colors you use for the backgammon set as a whole so it is very important to do this first.
Ideally, the pointers on the backgammon board should be just long enough that five backgammon checkers lined up together nearly reach the end of a pointer. As for the width, each half of the board should be wide enough so that when there is a checker on each pointer they fit snugly on the board with on a little space to spare. This will ensure that the checkers can be picked up easily but if you knock the backgammon set during play you will not scatter the pieces.
Finally, you should decide on the materials you want to use for you backgammon board. Different types of wood are often chosen for the beautiful finish and shades that provide the backgammon set markings. However, it is important that the backgammon pieces can slide smoothly across the board and that the dice roll well and don't bounce off the board.
