Using a Doubling cube for Money play backgammon.

Money play backgammon is the basic way of playing backgammon. Two players play for an agreed wager on stake per point. If both the players agree, stakes increase using the doubling cube. Each face of the doubling cube bears a number to record progressive doubles and redoubles, starting with 2 and going on to 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64.

Doubling cubes are used in money play backgammon. A player at any point may propose to double the wager with the doubling cube, before the dice is rolled. The other player needs to agree and the game continues for higher stakes. It starts with a doubling stake and can continue till 64 times the original bet is at stake.

The money play backgammon uses the Jacoby rule and Beavers. The payment is made by the losing player according to the checkers borne off by him. If one checker is borne off, the original wager is paid. When none of the checkers are borne off, the player is “gammoned” and double the value of the doubling cube is paid.

Total defeat is when any piece is on the winner’s home board or a piece is on the bar and no piece is borne off. This is called “backgammon” and the winner gets three times the value of the doubling cube. In money play backgammon there are intricate rules that need to be adhered to.

A rule that is used in money play backgammon is the Jacoby rule. In this rule, gammons and backgammons count as a single game if the players do not accept a double during the game. In the Beaver the player doubles and again redoubles consequently while having the doubling cube and the opponent has to agree to it.
