Using Backgammon Dice

Backgammon has evolved over the ages and the rules have developed accordingly. The main thing that has always remained constant is the checkers and dice. Backgammon dice are used by players in the beginning to see who will start the game and later to move the checkers around the board all through the game.

Understanding how the dice influences the game, helps to play the game better. Each player takes one die and the one who gets the higher number gets to play first. The backgammon dice is used to roll in the dice cup to ensure fair and clean throwing as wagering of money is at stake on every move.

Then both the players move their checkers by rolling two backgammon dice at one go. From the pips that are on the face of the backgammon dice, the player can move either two checkers each corresponding to one dice or add the numbers of both the dice and move only one checker.

Although a single backgammon checker can be moved, it is better to separate it in different moves. That shows that the move was valid and generally lands on a point that is open. The point must be open for the player to move a single backgammon checker. Good backgammon etiquette demands that one single pair of dice be used in one game, though both players get a set each.

Backgammon equipment is both machine-manufactured and handmade by professional players themselves. Backgammon equipment can be bought at any sporting store or can be bought online.
