What are precision dice

Like any sport or hobby, having the right equipment helps make the game more fair and enjoyable. This goes for backgammon equipment too. Apart from the backgammon board and the checkers, players need to invest their attention to what type of dice accompanies their game. Precision dice are being hailed the standard and an important accessory to backgammon equipment.

So what are precision dice? Precision dice are designed and created to be totally accurate and random. This means that no one side of the dice is favored and no single side is disadvantaged. In order achieve this it needs to maintain certain integral and in built features. For example, players will not that the dots on the precision dice are smooth. This is because rather than being indented and hollow they are filled in. By filling in each hole the weight of each side of the die is exactly equal. For dice that have hollow dots, the side carrying a single dot will be heavier (however so slightly) to the side with the six dots and thus rendering them unequally advantaged and disadvantaged.

Similarly important is the shape of the dice. In a precision die the corners will be rounded and the distance between sides will be absolutely accurate. These standards are already reached by the casino community whose entire industry rests on the precision of the dice.

Unlike the casino industry there is no set standard for dice in the backgammon equipment industry. However, players are pushing for this to occur.
