What is standard backgammon equipment?
The increasing popularity of backgammon has begun to spur backgammon community. This is thanks, in part, due to the internet. With a larger, and more interconnected backgammon community is creating the establishment in backgammon standards. This is effecting the whole range of backgammon equipment, right from the backgammon board including the dice, and the backgammon checkers.
the standard in backgammon equipment has mostly been influence by the increasing participation in competitions. As a result the size of a standard backgammon board has been established. Other backgammon equipment also carries international regulations. For competitions the dice have to be precision dice and the dice cups are required to have a lip inserted. In competitions, the judge may even ban backgammon equipment that doesn't comply with these conditions.
Similarly, the checkers are expected to meet certain standard in size and depth. No longer are coke and beer bottle tops the acceptable standard of play. On the contrary, in most competition backgammon players will use checkers that are no less than two inches in size. However, these require larger boards. Nevertheless, the larger sizes board make for comfortable play, but are less convenient to transport.
Overtime backgammon equipment is being standardized to meet demand. This is especially true in the competitions area, where like all sports standard equipment is required to achieve fairness and impartialness. The effect of this is the seeping of certain playing conditions into the backgammon playing community, and as a consequence standards are created.
