When to replace Backgammon cork

When the cork on a Backgammon board wears down, a quick replacement may be just what the Backgammon doctor ordered. It isn’t nearly as hard as it may sound and some companies actually sell cork inserts that are ready to slip into place. If a Backgammon cork insert is what a Backgammon player is looking for, then a quick measurement of the cork insert is needed and, if the board is of standard size, the ordering is very easy. However, if the Backgammon board is an odd size there might not be a pre-made cork insert available for purchase.

If there isn’t a pre-made Backgammon cork insert available for purchase there is nothing to worry about. A Backgammon player will simply have to do a bit of the work themselves and this is much easier than it initially sounds. A Backgammon player at this point can customize the board to any colors they wish by simply purchasing a different color cork, or by coloring the cork themselves. Once a player has decided on the color they will need to purchase a sufficient quantity to cut the pieces from. Cork isn’t generally too expensive and a sufficient quantity will be easy to come by for most Backgammon players.

Once the Backgammon cork is procured a player will need to trace the existing pieces that they need to cut out and then trace them onto the cork that is ready for replacement. A sharp razor, or a rotary cutter, at this point will cut the pieces cleanly. Once the old pieces are removed the new cork pieces can be glued into place. With just a few minutes of work a new piece of Backgammon cork can have the used Backgammon board looking brand new.
