Why buy backgammon books?

One can think of two reasons to buy backgammon books. One is to read and the other is to collect. Ultimately a reader is bound to collect books on backgammon and a collector cannot help reading his backgammon books collection.

A backgammon lover is vulnerable to develop an obsession for backgammon books. However there are a few things he needs to keep in mind before he gets into his desperate hunt for backgammon books.

Most books that have been written a while ago and have been considered as backgammon classics are out of print now. So if the collector is interested to get those books he might have to shell out a lot of money for these books which might be sold in some tournament or shops but one should be beware of reprints.

Another thing to be kept in mind is that hardcover carry a premium over soft covers. Many of the 70's editions came in both. Often the hardcovers are quite rare while the soft covers are commonplace.
