Why a backgammon game plan?

Backgammon is a game of skill which requires practice. Experienced players also have their own game plan in their mind when starting a match. However, the way a backgammon match develops depends largely on the dice. Hence, the backgammon player should be able to change his game plan according to what the dice dictate and how the match develops.

The backgammon game plan is the thought process of the backgammon player that keeps ebbing and flowing from initiation until completion of the match. The player cannot afford to have just one game plan. His backgammon game plan depends on the moves of his opponent. The backgammon moves are done with forethought and precision.

It is good to follow complete matches and delve into the thought processes of the players so as to predict their next moves. This can be one interesting means of whetting one's skill at the backgammon game plan.

Even expert players sometimes fail at their backgammon game plan. What is important for the backgammon player is not just his technique and tactics but his ability to read and predict his opponents’ moves and play style well in advance.
